When it comes to selecting my lead technicians, cast, and crew positions I do my best to cast the best person for the part. That might not always be the most talented performer. I tell my underclassmen to remember that the upperclassmen have had more experience and training than they have and that affects their casting. I tell my upperclassmen to remember that if they under-prepared for their auditions or coasting on the idea that "I know what they can do" it will affect how their casting. Talent is just one part of what I’m looking for in an audition. Attitude, discipline, respect, behavior, and the way you treat others matter just as much as a dynamic performance. The best advice I was ever given is You Are Always Auditioning. Theatre, at its roots, is an activity that requires collaboration with others. How you work in class and with others says everything that I need to know about what roles you should receive after school.
